Two in court over alleged motor parts theft

The Police on Wednesday arraigned two persons: Usman Amadu, 32 and Hayatu Abdulahi, 22, before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing motor parts.

The defendants, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a count charge of stealing motor parts.

The Prosecutor, Mr Sunday Okonkwo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct. 6 at Hausa market by North West filling station, Asaba.

Okonkwo said that the defendants stole three pieces of truck tyres, valued at N300,000, two rims, valued at N200,000, four tarpaulins, valued at N600,000 and one battery, valued at N150,000, all totalling N1,850,000.

He said that the stolen motor parts belonged to Charles Variezo Resources Ltd., the nominal complainant.

According to him, the offence is punishable under Sections 390(9) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The Newsmen  reports that the defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Edith Anumodu, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1,000,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Anumodu said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Nov. 4 for definite hearing
