Boko Haram kills mother and son

…Younger son and wife missing

A Boko Haram attack in Chibok has left a family all but wiped out except for a missing son, Odunayo Samuel Alonge, his wife, Foluso Omowunmi Alonge and his aged mother.

The Alonges, who were committed Christians, like every Christian in Chibok, had faced a series of persecution from Boko Haram over the years. Unlike some Christians who had denounced their religion due to persecutions by Boko Haram, the Alonges had stuck to their guns and refused to relinquish their faith.

These families, who have not denounced Christianity, were consistently harassed, attacked and their businesses and homes destroyed. The last two attacks happened in 2019 and 2020. It was in the final attack in 2020 which resulted in the killing of his family that Odunayo and his wife had been missing.

According to investigations carried out by our reporters, Odunayo was one of the only three members of his family who escaped, though separately, with their lives on that fateful night. Odunayo’s refusal to convert to Islam has made Boko Haram put a fatwa on his head. This, in essence, means that Odunayo is an infidel (a Christian) and should, therefore, be killed on sight.

Meanwhile, Odunayo remains missing. While his neighbours and friends claim that he had eventually found his dear wife after that night of attack on their family, their whereabouts remain unknown till now.
