Customs dismantles drug network, seizes over 6,000 kg of cannabis sativa in Lagos

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully confiscated 6,488 kg of cannabis sativa valued at N519,040,000.

This operation culminated in the arrest of four suspects, as officials emphasise the critical need for joint efforts against drug trafficking in Nigeria.

Speaking at a media briefing, Controller Kola Oladeji highlighted the importance of interagency collaboration in combating illicit drugs.

“The handing over of this large quantity of cannabis sativa underscores our commitment to working together to dismantle the supply chains of harmful substances in our communities,” he stated.

Oladeji cautioned against the dire consequences of drug abuse, both on individual health and broader societal issues such as crime and violence.

He warned, “Trading and distribution of illicit drugs pose a grave danger to our communities,” urging local youth and traders to recognize the risks associated with such illegal activities.

The Customs Controller further appealed to the public to champion the cause against drug trafficking, advocating for greater community awareness around the dangers of drug abuse.

“I am appealing to the public to join us in advocating against the trade in illicit drugs. We need to raise the bar concerning awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and support our law enforcement agents,” he emphasized
