Address issue of 66 freelance staff of OSBC letters — Osun NUJ writes Adeleke

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to address the issue of 66 freelance staff at Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) in Ile-Awiye, Oke-Baale, who have yet to receive their official employment letters.

It will be recalled that on May 22nd, during the commissioning of new studio equipment purchased by the government for OSBC Radio, the Governor directed that these 66 freelance staff be fully integrated into the state government’s workforce.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu and Adeyemi Aboderin, the NUJ appealed to Governor Adeleke to address the delay in issuing the employment letters, which has caused significant hardship for the affected staff.

The NUJ highlighted that despite efforts to implement the Governor’s directive, the matter remains unresolved. The Council expressed concern that the ongoing economic difficulties in the country, exacerbated by the recent rise in petrol prices, have made life increasingly challenging for many Nigerians.

The NUJ urged Governor Adeleke to show compassion for the 66 freelance staff by ensuring that the appropriate government channels expedite the release of their employment letters. The Council emphasized that resolving this issue promptly would alleviate the current distress faced by these staff and their families.

The release concluded by recognising Governor Adeleke’s empathy for the staff’s situation and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved swiftly and positively.
