NOSDRA will implement FG’s PMS framework — DG
The Director-General, National Oil Spillage Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Chukwuemeka Woke has reiterated his commitment towards implementing the Personnel Management System (PMS) framework in the agency.
Woke made the statement at a two-day workshop on the implementation of the PMS framework in Abuja on Monday.
He said that the PMS framework was hugely important to the professional development of the personnel of the agency.
“As an organisation, we shall align with this initiative because of its benefits to the professional development of our staff,” he said
He urged participants to embrace the knowledge offered in the workshop in order to enhance their competencies, skills and career advancement.
Recall that PMS framework, established under Rule 050201 of the Performance Service Rules, is expected to replace the Annual Performance Evaluation Report system.
Speaking further, Woke outlined NOSDRA’s pivotal role as an environment-based agency, and its commitment towards addressing oil spill and pollution challenges in the country.
He stated that NOSDRA was established with the primary objective of coordinating and implementing the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan of the country.
“Our goal is to ensure a safe, timely, effective, and appropriate response to significant oil spill incidents, to identify high-risk areas, and to prioritise efforts for protection and cleanup.
“We are committed to establishing mechanisms for monitoring and assisting, or when necessary, directing responses, including mobilising the required resources to save lives
“We are to also protect the environment, and restore impacted sites to the greatest practical extent,” he said.
The NOSDRA D-G further said that the agency had the responsibility to conduct surveillance, report, alert, and implement oil spill-related response activities.
