Gunmen kidnap 3, kill man in Ekiti

On Saturday, gunmen in Emure, Ekiti State, kidnapped three travelers, including killing Taiwo Oluwole, the husband of one of the abductees.

The attack occurred around 5:30 PM near Oyimo River, along the Emure-Eporo road. According to anonymous security sources, the victims’ Toyota Camry was ambushed as they were returning to Akure from a family event. Oluwole was shot and killed immediately, and his wife, along with two other passengers, was taken by the assailants.

This area has been a hotspot for abductions, with a similar incident involving pupils from Apostolic Faith Children School occurring at the same location in January. Additionally, Mrs. Atinuke, wife of retiree Albert Adanikin, was abducted in this region on July 13 of this year.

A local resident named Akin confirmed the attack, noting that the kidnappers had not yet contacted the victim’s family. He described how Oluwole was struck by gunfire while driving, leading to his instant death, and how the kidnappers then took the remaining passengers into the forest.

Tosin Adedayo, Chairman of Emure Local Government, confirmed the abduction and mentioned that a combined security team, including soldiers and police, has been actively searching for the perpetrators. Adedayo expressed confidence that the victims would eventually be rescued.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, had not responded to inquiries about the incident at the time of reporting.
