Fire guts Lagos govt staff quarters, properties worth millions destroyed

A fire outbreak occurred at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos State, causing significant damage to a two-story building.

The incident, which happened around 2:20 am on Friday affected one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5, Block 21, a three-story structure housing 16 two-bedroom flats.

According to Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire was caused by an electrical surge in the children’s room of the affected flat.

“Fortunately, there was no loss of life, and no injuries were sustained in the incident. We also took the opportunity to enlighten the victims and other occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences,” he said.

The fire was contained and extinguished by the Lagos Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Personnel from the agencies were still on the scene as of 5:00 am to ensure the situation was under control.
