2 BRT buses collide, passengers injured

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that passengers injured in a collision involving two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses have been successfully rescued.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, provided details in a statement. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident occurred on the BRT corridor at Iyana-Ipaja, heading toward Pleasure Road.

The agency responded to distress calls received at 11:39 PM on the 767 and 112 emergency lines by deploying its Dolphin Response Team from the Igando Base. Upon reaching the scene, it was determined that the crash involved two BRT buses, though their registration numbers were not immediately available.

Further investigation revealed that the incident occurred when one BRT bus, attempting to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist who was illegally using the BRT corridor, collided with another BRT bus traveling in the opposite direction.

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported; however, passengers on both buses sustained varying degrees of injury. The injured were promptly transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.

To clear the scene, two tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged BRT buses from the roadway.
