Police arrest six suspected cultists, seize drugs

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reported that it carried out a raid on a criminal hideout in the Afaha Offiong community, located in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of six suspected cultists.

In a statement provided by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, in Uyo, she revealed that the operatives acted on the instructions of Commissioner of Police CP Waheed Ayilara, based on intelligence regarding criminal activities in the area.

She listed the suspects as Kufre Godwin Okon, Uko Monday Edet, Cyril Micheal, Gabriel Effiong, Joseph Effiong Okon, and Udofia Emmanuel Udofia.

The PPRO also mentioned that the suspects were allegedly involved in drug dealing. She said that two bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, some suspected cocaine, and various concoctions were recovered from the scene.

She indicated that authorities are actively pursuing the remaining suspects who are still at large and mentioned that the arrested individuals will face court charges following the completion of investigations.

“Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Waheed Ayilara, has assured residents of Akwa Ibom of the command’s steadfast dedication to eliminating criminal elements from the state.

“She urged them to report any suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station, as this will assist the police in gathering and acting on information to help keep the state safe and secure,” she said
