Kogi PDP seeks to suspend Melaye for declaring the party dead

The Kogi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has requested that the local executive committee in Ijumu begin immediate suspension proceedings against Senator Dino Melaye. This action follows Melaye’s recent declaration that the party is effectively dead. The PDP contends that this step is crucial to restoring the party’s integrity and redirecting its leadership towards more effective management.

On Sunday, party elders led by Alhaji Ibrahim Dansofo released a statement in Lokoja addressing the issue. They criticized Melaye, asserting that his political career has deteriorated to the point where he is no longer even competitive for local council positions.

The elders described Melaye as a significant burden on the party, accusing him of hypocrisy for criticizing the current leadership while benefiting from a governorship ticket despite his evident inability to win even a primary election. They attributed the party’s current challenges to Melaye’s nomination, labeling it as a major misjudgment that contributed to the party’s difficulties.

The PDP also urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reassess their support for Melaye, advising them to distance themselves from someone they have characterized as a “burden” and a “major liability” to the party.
