United lose at the death to Brighton

Joao Pedro scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner on Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler’s home debut, securing a 2-1 victory over Manchester United. This came after Joshua Zirkzee, who had previously secured a win for United against Fulham, inadvertently blocked a potential goal by teammate Alejandro Garnacho in the 70th minute.

Despite a strong first-half performance from United, they fell behind when former striker Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton in the 32nd minute. Marcus Rashford’s equalizer was ruled out for offside, and although Zirkzee was substituted in for Mason Mount at halftime, it initially failed to spark an equalizer for United.

Brighton came close to extending their lead with a James Milner shot cleared off the line by Diogo Dalot and a Welbeck header that hit the crossbar. Moments later, Amad Diallo scored for United after a deflection from Jan Paul van Hecke.

United pressed for a winner, and Garnacho thought he had scored, but Zirkzee’s intervention with his knee kept the ball from fully crossing the line. In stoppage time, Brighton took advantage when Simon Adingra’s cross found Pedro, who headed the ball in as Brighton players awaited at the back post.
