We arrested whistle blower PIDOMNIGERIA for leaking classified documents – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has announced that officials from the National Cybercrime Center apprehended Bristol Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM, on charges of compromising government operations. Tamunobiefiri operates as an anonymous whistleblower on X.com, under the handle #PIDOMNIGERIA, and is known for his account 99% Oppressed.

The police stated that PIDOMNigeria was arrested on August 5 in his hotel room in Rivers State. On Thursday, David Hundeyin reported PIDOMNigeria missing since the arrest, following contact from an associate, which sparked a significant social media outcry and a campaign using hashtags such as #PIDOM, #FreePidom, and #WhereisPidom.

In a statement on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi outlined additional accusations against PIDOMNigeria, including unlawful possession of classified documents and various cyber-related offenses. Adejobi emphasized that a thorough investigation would be conducted into these allegations.

He assured that the police are committed to a comprehensive inquiry, stating, “We will ensure a meticulous investigation into these cases. The force remains dedicated to enforcing the law and ensuring a safer nation for all Nigerians.”
