Mushin: Sanwo-Olu inaugurates final Red Line flyover

The Mushin Flyover, the final overpass among five constructed along the Red Line corridor, is now operational. On Saturday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially inaugurated the infrastructure, enhancing the commuting experience in the area.
Developed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the project has alleviated traffic congestion for motorists and commuters travelling from Onipanu along Agege Motor Road. It also addresses delays and traffic issues related to the railway crossing at Ogunmokun.
The overpass effectively eliminates conflicts between pedestrians, vehicles, and trains, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.
A lively crowd attended the brief inauguration ceremony, where Governor Sanwo-Olu was joined by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other members of the State’s cabinet.
Prior to this, the Sanwo-Olu administration had completed four other bridges in Yaba, Oyingbo, Ikeja, and Agege, improving connectivity along the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, which stretches 37 kilometres from Agbado to Oyingbo.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the opening of the Mushin Flyover fulfils his administration’s commitment to residents, noting its transformative impact on public transportation in the State.
He highlighted that the flyover would alleviate congestion and reduce travel time between Mushin and Ilupeju. “The Mushin overpass is crucial for improving movement and connectivity within Mushin and Onipanu communities, linking Agege Motor Road, Post Office Road, and Ogunmokun. This infrastructure not only enhances traffic flow but also brings significant economic benefits to the area,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also mentioned that the project benefited local communities, providing engineering students with valuable internship opportunities. He noted that a primary school displaced by the construction had been relocated and rebuilt nearby, and he praised residents for their support of the development.
He urged the community to take ownership of the new infrastructure and protect it from vandalism.
LAMATA Managing Director Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo confirmed that property owners affected by the project had been fully compensated and that a local contractor managed the construction.
