Ogun: NSCDC arrest two suspects for vandalism, impersonation

The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,on Tuesday arrested two suspects for vandalism and impersonation.
At the Command’s headquarters on Kobape Road, Abeokuta, Commandant David Ojelabi reported that Oluwatobi Salami, aged 30, was arrested by members of the Sagamu community near the OGD International Market on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Salami was subsequently handed over to NSCDC officials.
Ojelabi stated, “Salami specialises in impersonating an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and a Nigerian Army officer.
“EFCC jackets and other military attire were found in his possession. He will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further discrete investigation.”
Ojelabi Further detailed that ”Idris Zakari, aged 20 from Bagudu Local Government, Kebbi State, was arrested on Friday, August 9, 2024, while vandalising railway clips in the Ifo Local Government Area.
Zakari was apprehended by members of the So-Safe Corps and, in the interest of inter-agency collaboration and effective investigation, was transferred to the NSCDC State Command for further investigation and prosecution.”
Ojelabi condemned the act of vandalising government-owned infrastructure as economic sabotage and assured that the Command would ensure those caught face the full consequences of their actions according to the law.
He emphasised that the Command will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and the public to combat crime and criminality in the state.
Salami, speaking to the journalists, confessed that he had stolen the EFCC uniforms from a hotel in Lekki, Lagos State.
He had also had Nigerian Army insignia printed on a vest he purchased to pose as an Army officer.
Salami admitted, “I stole the uniforms from a bag I picked up at a hotel in Lekki. I didn’t usually wear them but had taken pictures with them and sent them to my friends, claiming to be an officer.
“I also enjoyed entering Lagos dressed as an officer. I sincerely regret this and hope the government will use this as a warning and let me go, as my parents are deceased.”
