Olympic games; Anyanacho loses to end Nigeria’s taekwando medal hopes

Elizabeth Anyanacho, Nigeria’s sole representative in taekwondo at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, was eliminated in the opening bout of her competition on Friday morning. Competing in the women’s -67 kilogram category, Anyanacho faced Song Jie of China at the Grand Palais.

In their round of 16 match, the two fighters were tied 3-3 at the end of the first round. However, Song Jie pulled ahead decisively in the second round, securing an 8-2 victory that advanced her to the quarter-finals.

This defeat marks the end of Nigeria’s hopes for a medal in taekwondo at these Games. Anyanacho, who was managed by 2008 Olympic bronze medalist China Chukwumerije, was unable to progress further in the competition.
