Fire in Southern Germany prison injures several

Several individuals sustained minor injuries following a fire at a prison in Memmingen, southern Germany, on Thursday.

According to a police spokesman, the fire was first detected by a prison employee who noticed smoke emerging from a cell.

Prison officers quickly extinguished the blaze and removed the inmate from the affected room. Despite this, both the 27-year-old inmate and another prisoner experienced smoke inhalation.

The spokesman also reported that approximately twelve officers involved in containing the fire were affected by the smoke. Some of those impacted were taken to the hospital, though none sustained serious injuries.

The incident did not necessitate the evacuation of the prison. Authorities believe the fire was intentionally set by the inmate.
