Plateau govt. lauds residents for choosing non-violent protest

The Plateau Government has praised the state’s residents for exercising their constitutional right to protest peacefully, demonstrating high levels of discipline and respect for public property.

State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Musa Ashoms, expressed this appreciation in a statement on Saturday in Jos. Ashoms commended the protesters for their non-violent approach and noted that the protests, which began on August 1, marked a refreshing shift from the typically chaotic and destructive nature of such demonstrations.

He stated that under Gov. Caleb Mutfwang’s leadership, the Plateau Government recognizes the right of citizens to peacefully express their grievances. The ongoing protests represent a positive step toward fostering dialogue and understanding between the government and its people. Ashoms highlighted that the protesters’ decision to clean the streets after their demonstrations exemplifies their civic responsibility and community spirit.

“This behavior not only contrasts with the destructive tendencies seen elsewhere but also highlights how protests can be a platform for positive change,” Ashoms said. He also praised Mutfwang’s administration for creating an environment that supports peaceful dissent and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing concerns through dialogue rather than suppression.

Ashoms also thanked the security agencies for their professionalism in managing the protests, underscoring their crucial role in maintaining peace and order. He noted that peaceful protests should not only serve as a means to express frustrations but also as a way to foster constructive conversations. The actions of the Plateau protesters set a commendable example and should inspire others.

He stressed the importance of continuing this model of peaceful protest and maintaining a commitment to non-violence and community-focused actions. By doing so, the people of Plateau can serve as a beacon for the nation and contribute to building a stronger, more united, and progressive society.
