Benue Assembly summons APC chieftain for inciting constituents against members
By Titus Atondu, Makurdi
Benue State House of Assembly at the plenary on Tuesday presided over by the honourable Speaker Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh has directed the Commissioner of Police and the Director of State Security Service to as a matter of urgency invite one Hon. Basil Yina for interrogation and subsequent prosecution for falsehood, inciting constituents against Honourable members of the house and at the same time ridiculing the tenth assembly in the eyes of a right thinking person.
The House unanimously took the decision when Honourable Berger Afraid representing Makurdi North presented a motion to that effect and was seconded by the majority Chief Whip Hon. Peter Ipusu representing Katsina – Ala West constituency.
The motion revealed that Hon. Basil Yina a suspended chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboko local government area chapter released a video on the social media which went viral where he fabricated lies accusing the assembly members that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume has given a truck of fertiliser to each assembly member for onward donation to their respective constituencies for free.
The fake video fashioned by Basil to ridicule members of the 10th assembly has it that while some members successfully distributed the fertiliser given to them to their constituents for free while other members sold their constituencies fertiliser allocation.
In heated deliberations, the house condemned and dismissed Basil’s action in its entirety described it as false and unfounded fashioned by him to demeaning the honourable members and at the same time inciting their respective constituents that gave them their mandate to represent them in the assembly against them.
In a similar vein, the house also directed that the chairman Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Dr. John Chen should appear before it with the view to fashioning the house on activities of the Commission within one year.
On the other hand, Benue State house of assembly has also set up a five man ad hoc committee to interact with the management of lobi stars football club and report back to the house within one week.
The adhoc committee which is headed by Mathew Damkor has other members as Manger Manger, Elias Audu, Isaac Ochekliye and Cephas Dyako with Wandoo Aondona as the secretary.
The committee is to find out the challenges of the club leading to their poor performance in the just concluded National league.
The setting up of the ad hoc committee followed a motion of urgent Public importance moved by the chairman house standing committee on Youths and sports Mr Cephas Dyako expressed worry over the refusal of the vice chairman of the club Mr Dominic Iorfa to cooperate with members of the committee to brief them about the activities of the club.
The motion was seconded by Peter Ipusu who said it was disheartening to witness the poor performance of the club as a football fan while member representing Ohimini constituency Mr Isaac Ochekliye expressed shock why such is happening to the club despite having a good professional as head of the club.
