Rivers: Commissioner hails NWADPI’s visit as renewed hope for food security

The Rivers State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon Prince Charles Beke, has expressed optimism about the visit of the Nigeria Women for Agricultural Progressive Development Initiative (NWADPI), Rivers State Chapter, describing it as a renewed hope for food security in the State.

“I am satisfied with the ideas of NWADPI, and I call on all Nigerian women to return to farming to alleviate the harsh economic situation in Nigeria and Rivers State in particular,” Prince Beke said.

“Their ideology aligns with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s blueprint to revamp the agricultural sector and cushion the effect of food scarcity.”

The Commissioner praised the Association’s efforts, noting that women are the backbone of agriculture in Nigeria.

“You are on the right track, and I promise to assist you in linking up with TotalEnergies, NDDC, and other agricultural sectors to advance your goals,” he said.

Prince Beke advised the Association to liaise with Community Development Committees in the 23 Local Government Areas to acquire land for farming and to register with the Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industries, as well as FADAMA, to accelerate their quest.

NWADPI State Coordinator, Ngozi Ajayi, thanked the Commissioner for his support and commended his zeal to partner with the Association.

“We are only six months old in Nigeria, but we have coordinators in all 774 Local Government Areas. We aim to bridge the gap between women farmers and other farming groups,” she said.

The organisation’s inauguration is scheduled for July 25, 2024, and the Commissioner has been invited as a guest.

“Your presence will rekindle hope for our Organisation and encourage the national body that Rivers State is ready to strive,” Ajayi said.

Deputy State Coordinator, Nneka Barile Blessing, congratulated the Commissioner on his reception and prayed for God’s guidance in all his endeavours.
