Lagos harnesses AI to translate laws into Yoruba language

The Lagos State Law Reform Commission has organised a three-day workshop to leverage Artificial Intelligence in translating the laws of Lagos State into the Yoruba language.

The workshop, themed “Unlocking AI Powered Translation: Enhancing Access to Lagos State Laws in indigenous languages,” aims to improve public order and safety, operational efficiency, and accessibility of the state’s laws.

According to Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, “The workshop is designed to boost public order and safety, operational efficiency, and improved accessibility and scalability of Lagos State Laws.”

The Yoruba language is widely spoken in Lagos State, and this initiative aims to make the state’s laws more accessible to its diverse population.

This development comes on the heels of a stakeholder engagement forum held by the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology in June, which focused on the proposed innovation bill.

Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatubosun Alake, emphasised the need for a robust policy framework that encourages innovation investment and drives Lagos to the forefront of the digital revolution.

“This engagement is in line with driving an innovation policy framework,” Alake said.
