The Lagos State government has revealed that only 1.06 million residents have registered for its Ilera Eko health insurance scheme since its inception in 2021.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, at a joint press briefing on Monday.
According to Dr. Zamba, “LASHMA, since the commencement of operations in 2021, has worked to ensure that residents enrol in the health scheme.
“Furthermore, LASHMA also has foot soldiers known as enrolment officers who visit the nooks and crannies of the state to enrol residents. We have also embarked on various grassroots programmes to sensitise residents at the grassroots.”
In a bid to increase registration, LASHMA has collaborated with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
The General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikiss Adebiyi- Abiola, emphasised the importance of registration, stating, “I want to specifically emphasise two key benefits that registration with LASRRA affords: Access to the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme and seamless access to a plethora of Lagos State services.”
Adebiyi-Abiola explained that registering with LASRRA ensures access to quality healthcare services without financial constraints and serves as a gateway to various state services, including educational support, housing initiatives, social welfare programs, business development opportunities, and transport services.
She urged Lagos residents to take advantage of the benefits of registering with LASRRA, saying, “It ensures that no resident is left behind in the government’s efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive Lagos.”
