LASU clears air on suya wrapper Certificate, says it’s invalid

By Sodiq Adelakun

The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has responded to the viral report of a degree certificate being used to wrap suya in Lagos, stating that the certificate in question is invalid.

According to the university, the certificate contained a misspelling of the graduate’s surname, listing it as “ABISOYE” instead of “ABIOYE”, which led to its invalidation in 2013.

A corrected certificate was issued to the graduate in 2014, and the invalidated certificate was supposed to be destroyed.

However, an oversight during the disposal process resulted in the certificate entering the public space.

LASU clarified that the certificate used to wrap suya was indeed invalid and had been replaced with a corrected one. The university’s statement puts to rest the controversy surrounding the incident.

“The invalidated certificate entered the public space due to improper screening of office waste papers prior to disposal,” the statement concluded.
