The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, on Saturday, bowed out of service after 35 years of service and 10 months of leading the state police command.

Adeoye was appointed the police CP in Anambra by the Police Service Commission, on June 30, 2023, replacing Echeng Echeng, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to Zone 9, Umuahia.

During the ceremonial pull-out parade of the CP held at the Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Saturday, Adeoye noted that he had been at various police units and performed well, adding that he served many police commissioners.

He added that he was fully prepared for the job when he assumed office, which was why he was able to tackle the security challenges in Anambra, reducing them to the barest minimum.

Also speaking during the ceremony, the state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyeka Ibezim, who represented the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, commended the retiring CP for his efforts at reducing insecurity in the state.

He said, “There is usually a time to begin something and there is also a time to end it. The CP has done very well in Anambra. If we could retain him, we would have done so.”

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries and various groups, including the Yoruba and Hausa communities, among others.

The leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Edwin Clark, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, of causing confusion against Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.

Clark said Wike was dancing naked in the open market in the politics of madness in Rivers State.

He accused the minister of controlling both the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.

This was contained in a letter dated May 20, 2024, and addressed to both the chairmen of the APC and PDP.

Clark’s letter reads partly: “As a patriotic old statesman, I strongly believe that I should address this letter to you to call to order FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, because he is dancing naked in the open market in the politics of madness in Rivers State with one leg each in the two parties.

“I know both of you are fully aware and involved in the political crisis in Rivers State, which is caused by Wike, who is controlling the two parties in Rivers State, particularly the PDP.

“I strongly advise both of you to withdraw from the madness of politics of Rivers State to avoid the dangerous crisis facing Rivers State, one of the most important states producing the resources used to sustain the economy of this country.

“I hope you do not forget that the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the deep seaport of Onne are very well established in Rivers State.

“How can the Federal Government and the two main political parties allow an individual to disrupt and cause confusion, harassment of the democratically elected Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on the guise that he alone and not the people of Rivers State made Fubara Governor, in his provocative and inciting statement?”
