Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who himself started the season at City, was second in the top scorer standings with 22 goals, one ahead of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

Man Utd speak to Garnacho over social media activity
Manchester United have spoken to Alejandro Garnacho after the winger liked social media posts criticising manager Erik ten Hag over his handling of the player.
The Argentina international, taken off at half-time in their 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday, liked two messages on X (formerly Twitter), by United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.
One post accused Ten Hag of “throwing (Garnacho) under the bus” because of comments the United boss made about the 19-year-old’s performance.
The other said Garnacho “had a poor first half but taking him off at halftime and holding him up as the problem is a joke.”
Garnacho swiftly “unliked” both messages, an action the club believes shows contrition, and a United source told the PA news agency the matter had been dealt with internally.
The teenager has become a key player for United this season, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in 42 games.
The incident follows one in September when Jadon Sancho said on X that he had been made a “scapegoat” after being left out of the squad for the Arsenal match, with Ten Hag saying he had trained poorly. Sancho said he would “not allow people saying things that (are) completely untrue”, interpreted as accusing Ten Hag of misrepresenting reasons why he was not on the side.
The 24-year-old was banished from the first team before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January.
Ten Hag’s position has come under renewed pressure after the draw against Bournemouth, which left United seventh in the Premier League table, 13 points off the top four.
The FA Cup is the only silverware that United can win this season — they take on second-tier side Coventry in the semi-final at Wembley on Sunday

JUST IN: Liverpool name Arne Slot new coach
Liverpool Football Club has announced that Arne Slot has agreed to become the club’s new head coach.
The club disclosed that Slot will resume duty on January 1 after a work permit.
This was disclosed in a statement on the club’s website on Monday.
“Liverpool Football Club can announce Arne Slot has agreed a deal to become the club’s new head coach, formally taking up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit.
“The 45-year-old will join the Reds from Feyenoord ahead of the 2024-25 season after a deal was reached with the Eredivisie club for his services,” it read.
Slot will replace Jürgen Klopp at the helm following his decision to step down from the post at the end of the current campaign.
“The Netherlands-born coach will arrive after three highly successful seasons with Feyenoord, during which he led them to the league title in 2023 and was named Eredivisie Manager of the Year on two occasions.
“More recently, he helped the Rotterdam club to victory in the KNVB Cup in April after they defeated NEC Nijmegen 1-0 in the final.
“Before moving to Feyenoord, Slot held the position of AZ Alkmaar head coach, and he had led them to second place in the table, trailing leaders Ajax only on goal difference, when the Dutch season was cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2019-20.
“During his playing career, he operated primarily as a midfielder, turning out for FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam and PEC Zwolle before hanging up his boots in 2013,” it further read.
He will now soon become the first head coach of Liverpool FC from the Netherlands – with his first pre-season in charge of the squad set to get underway in July.

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria secured their first win at the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ghana, edging out the Niger Republic 1-0 at the University Stadium in Accra.

Manu Garba’s side were reduced to 10 men after Chibuike Okorie was sent off three minutes after the hour mark.
The Golden Eaglets moved to second place on the Group B table with four points from two games.
Burkina Faso, who defeated Togo earlier in the day, top the group with the same number of points but with a superior goal difference.
Niger Republic is third with three points.
The Golden Eaglets will face already-eliminated Togo in their last group game on Wednesday.
A draw will be enough for the former World champions to earn a place in the semi-finals.

Haaland wins second premier league golden boot award
Erling Haaland won his second Premier League Golden Boot in as many seasons in England on Sunday as Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1 to win a fourth consecutive title.
The Norwegian striker was absent for two months of the season through injury and struggled to match the heights of his debut campaign at City when he struck 52 times in all competitions, including a Premier League record 36.
The 23-year-old failed to add to his 27 Premier League goals on the final day but still proved decisive in the run-in to help City secure an unprecedented fourth consecutive English top-flight crown.
Haaland scored nine times in his final seven Premier League appearances of the season to help City edge Arsenal to the title by two points.
