Gov. Soludo failed in two years — Ozigbo
By Felix Oti, Awka
Former Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Valentine Ozigbo has said that he has decided that he will contest the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
Ozigbo, stated this in an interactive meeting with some journalists in Anambra on Saturday said he waited to assess Governor Chukwuma Soludo after two years in office, before deciding whether he will run or not.
He said after two years, he is not impressed with Soludo’s achievements, saying that because of that, he has decided that he will run.
He said he will run for just one term in office to complete the zoning arrangement which favours the southern senatorial zone where he and Soludo come from.
His words: “We have seen the leadership of Soludo in two years and some of you may be impressed but I’m not. After the last election in 2021, I called and wished him well and moved on and we have never spoken again. My decision was to access him after two years, and having seen it, I’m not impressed and I want to start holding him accountable.
“I’m here to share my thoughts with you, what I think and no matter how you see what he (Soludo) is doing, you will be more proud when I mount the saddle.
“We need to change the narrative and look for a way to survive. We must fight to rescue Anambra. I’m a non transactional politician. I have several things I can do, but my worry is how we can recover the state and put her on the path of development.
“Zoning is a good thing. But it must be combined with competence to make sense. Don’t pick a renegade just because he is from a certain zone, and don’t pick the best, when you know you can pick one that is better.
“I respect zoning, and I will be making a case for a single term of four years. Anyone who sees what Alex Otti is doing in Abia will know that four years is enough time to do a lot of work.
“I will honour that principle of zoning, and I will not need anyone’s push or prompting to do otherwise. I will be ready to do an agreement and do an undertaking that I will do just one term. I also wish to tell you that Obi has been consistent that a southerner who emerges will only do one term.
“It is a settled matter that I intend to run for just one term. I intend to keep faith with the agreement,” Ozigbo said.

Over 373,030 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be redistributed to the owners from May 27, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting on the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Anugbum Onuoha stated that the PVC collection exercise would be done side-by-side with the CVR exercise, also scheduled for May 27.
Recall that the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, had announced to begin the CVR exercise in Edo and Ondo ahead of the governorship elections in the two states.
Onuoha says while the statistics of registered voters in Edo is 2,501,081, collected PVC is 2,128,288 and uncollected PVCs stand at 373,030.
He said both the CVR and the PVC collection would be a 10-day exercise, starting from May 27 to June 5, from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. daily, including weekends.
The REC explained that the exercise would be conducted in the 192 wards and the state headquarters of INEC in Edo.
He also disclosed that each registration centre would be managed by two officials drawn from the commission and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“In addition to the registration of voters, the commission will also make available the uncollected PVCs for collection during CVR.
“Also note that no PVC will be collected by proxy. Registered voters should come in person to collect their cards.
“There will be no pre-registration option because of time constraints,” he said.
Onuoha, however, appealed for the support of the media, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), traditional rulers and religious leaders in encouraging voters to locate and pick up their PVCs.
According to him, the commission has published the final list of candidates for the Edo governorship election following the conclusion of primaries of the political parties.
The Deputy Director, Voter Registry, INEC Abuja, Mrs Doris Kande-Wyom, who took stakeholders through CVR processes, appealed to them to mobilise prospective registrants for the exercise.
