Patent row between Amazon and Huawei ends

U.S. e-commerce giant, Amazon and China’s multinational tech corporation, Huawei, have ended a row over patent.

Amazon and Huawei have reached a multi-year patent cross-licence agreement that resolved pending litigation between them, Huawei said in a statement.

“Amazon respects Huawei’s worldwide patent portfolio, innovations, and contributions to the standardization process,’’ stated Scott Hayden, vice president of intellectual property for Amazon.

“Amazon also respects Huawei’s efforts to license its patents to companies like Amazon, which frequently use industry technical standards when inventing new products and services for customers.’’

IGP Bans The Use Pos, Other Money Transfer Devices In Police Stations

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has placed a ban on the use of Point of Sale (PoS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and other police facilities across the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi noted that the ban is aimed at preserving the integrity and security of police operations, forestalling perceived corrupt practices, clearing the commands/formations of possible criminal intrusion under such guise, and maintaining discipline within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

He stated: “Despite previous directives, it has come to the attention of the Force leadership that some Commands and Formations continue to flout this regulation. As such, the IGP warns that any violation of this ban will attract severe sanctions on the leadership of the affected Commands and Formations.

“The IGP notes that the use of electronic payment devices within police facilities poses significant risks, including the potential compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and the facilitation of illicit activities, therefore, strict adherence to this directive is non-negotiable.”
