Suspected homosexual escapes lynching, loses partner, Jello in Kano

By Shuaib Tanko

A group called Islamic Hisba ( a religious moral police), has lynched a young man to death at Block 1273, Dorayi Babba, Kano for purportedly harbouring his brother; a suspected homosexual.

They went to the house to ask his father about his whereabouts so that they could take Ahmed away and probably kill him, but the father said he had no clue of Ahmed’s whereabouts. This answer angered them and they (Hisba) severely beat Ahmed’s father which resulted in him suffering various degrees of injuries.

The perpetrators showed no empathy nor remorse as they were seen jubilating and brandishing the naked pictures of Ahmed and his dead partner.

Meanwhile his cousins;  Abubakar and Rasheed – who were also present at the scene – tried to intercede but also got  the beating of their lives until they passed out.

The group left the house in anger and in red banners chanting “blood must flow, blood must flow.” They claimed they had a tip which suggested Ahmed is hiding somewhere within the community and they wouldn’t relent until they get  him. Eye witnesses said they left chanting “we will be back.”

It was gathered that Ahmed has been on the run from the group for many months and it wasn’t the first attack by the group on him or his family. His father and siblings now live in constant fear attack by the Islamic anti-gay Hisba.

The group has sworn to wipe away homosexuality in the state by all means and will not hesitate to do harm to anybody who indulge in such “unscrupulous” acts. Meanwhile, the police have deposited the body of Jello at the Malam Aminu Hospital Kano while both his father and cousins were hospitalised.
