Man, 45, in court for alleged possession of firearms

The Police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a 45-year-old man, Joseph Kokou, before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged illegal possession of two locally made single barrel guns.

The defendant, whose address is unknown, is facing a count charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 9, at about 9.00.a.m at Oloko Junction, Owode Apa, Badagry, Lagos State.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant was caught in possession of two locally made single barrel guns.

He said the offence contravened Section 312 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr N.A Layeni granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said that one of the sureties should be a community leader while the second must be a member of the hunter’s association.

Layeni adjourned the case until Feb.29, for mention.
