The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) leadership in Kwara State have formally submitted the union’s demands to the state government.

The Labour unions threatened industrial action upon failure of the government to address the demands of the workers.

In a statement signed by Comrade Muritala Saheed the Kwara state NLC Chairman and Comrade Tunde Joseph TUC Chairman, along with the state Chairman of JNC, Comrade Saliu Suleiman, the labor unions outlined several pressing issues affecting workers in Kwara State.

At the forefront of the demands is the urgent need for the implementation of the memorandum of understanding reached between the federal government and organised labour.

The labour union is calling for the implementation of various measures, including the execution of the thirty-five thousand (N35,000) naira wage award for all categories of workers in the state, consequential adjustments for pensioners and weigh-in allowance for media workers, as well as the implementation of 100 percent CONHESS and 100 percent hazard allowance for health workers at the local government level.

Additionally, they are urging the prompt payment of outstanding arrears to local government workers in Kwara State, among other requests.

Expressing concern over the alleged refusal of the state government to address these demands, the labour unions warned that such non-compliance could lead to industrial unrest in Kwara State.
