Cleaner granted bail of N500,000 after allegedly stabbing neighbour in Abuja

A Kado Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday admitted a cleaner, John Bassey, who allegedly stabbed his neighbour to bail in the Sun of N500,000.

Bassey, a resident of Mabushi village, Abuja, is charged with criminal force/assault and causing grievous hurt.

The Judge, Malam Mohammed Wakili, also ordered the defendant to produce one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 20, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Stanley Nwafoaku told the court that the complainant, Sati Longis reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Station.

He said that the complainant’s children left a bucket in front of the defendant’s door and while trying to stop the defendant from throwing the bucket away, he attacked him.

He said that the defendant went into his room to grab a knife with which he stabbed the complainant on his back.

Nwafoaku added that the complainant had to be rushed to a hospital where he was billed N150,000, being the cost of treatment. He said during police investigation the defendant confessed to have committed the offence

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provision of sections 266 and 247 the Penal Code Law.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
