The Lagos State Government (LASG) has issued certificate of service to the first set of the beneficiaries of the Governor Babjide Sanwo-Olu’s LAGOS-CARES Programme – Labour Intensive Public Workfare (DLI 1.2), while bringing new set of beneficiaries on board.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Investment, Mrs. Abosede George at the certification ceremony of outgoing beneficiaries and verification/sensitisation of new beneficiaries of the programme at the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), said the certification for those who have worked in their designated roles for one year was to allow others benefit of the dividends of democracy.
She disclosed that among those given certification, who have been certified to be dedicated to service, the State Government has reserved automatic appointments for jobs, while some others would be enrolled into the Lagos State Volunteer Corps.
“We have given those of you who have done a good job certificates and also we are bringing in new beneficiaries to benefit of the dividends of democracy,” she said.
George who was represented by the Head of Labour Intensive Public Workfare DLI 1.2, Mrs. Mary Hunpe, said the first batch of beneficiaries of three categories, who were brought on board between last June-July, August and October were given the certification as a sign of their commitment to the government service with key focus around the State Ministry of Transportation.
“The certificate is an appreciation of your dedication and commitment as beneficiaries of the MG Cares programme. Some names of very dedicated persons have been penned down with the Ministry of Transportation to get permanent employment,” she said.
She pleaded with the new beneficiaries, who can’t spend at least stipulated three hours of their day to the service to disengage, calling on them to be committed to the terms of service.
The Chairman of the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hammed Idowu Tijani, said the programme is a reflection of dividends of democracy.
Applauding Gov. Sanwo-olu for the commitment towards the initiative, he said the Sanwo-Olu led “government is a government of the people.”
“We have seen clearly, it is a government ready to listen to the people; it’s a government super ready to ensure all enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
He told the new beneficiaries to be focused and be determined to take advantage of the benefits of the programme.
“Life is like a bicycle, you need to stay on a balance to ride on,” he said, charging them to inform others of the benefits and be committed to help others.
He charged the new beneficiaries not to be distracted, assuring of government support, while disclosing more intervention programmes are on the way for residents of the LCDA.
Council Manager, Ojokoro LCDA, Adebola Adeyemi said the programme which started last year testifies to the extension of dividends of democracy to the beneficiaries.
He said the intervention is coming as part of palliatives to individuals and stimulus packages to help businesses in response to economic strains which were ushered in about three years since the COVID-19 challenges.
He called on the beneficiaries to be ambassador of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led Government by creating awareness on what he described as the “largesse of the government,” of which they have benefitted.
Beneficiaries who spoke to Nigerian NewsDirect affirmed that they were posted for duties across sections bearing relevance to the State Ministry of Transportation, stating they were paid for their jobs as signed in the contract of engagement.
