FRSC begins special patrol against traffic offences in Kogi
The Kogi Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday started a special patrol against traffic offences to drastically reduce the rate of road traffic crashes.
Its Commander, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, in a statement, described as “unacceptable,” the numerous traffic offences causing the death of innocent citizens and destruction of property.
The statement was signed by the Command’s Public Education Officer, Mr Peter Onyekwuo.
It said that the operations would target overloading, speed infraction and reckless driving.
“This special patrol will involve the arrest and impounding of overloaded vehicles and other commercial vehicles that are yet to install the speed limiting device.
“The exercise has commenced simultaneously across all commands within the state; we must address the menace and save the souls of commuters,” the statement stated.
The sector commander frowned at the covering of number plates as well as the use of illegal number plates.
He warned that the FRSC won’t hesitate to prosecute owners of impounded vehicles who do not pay the appropriate fine within seven days of arrest.
