Fighting insecurity a collective task — Ogun So-Safe Commander
Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta
Residents of Ogun State have been called upon to support the State government by being security conscious and providing necessary information to security outfits, to complement efforts of the government at ensuring a crime-free society.
The Commander of Ogun State Community Orientation Safety Corps (So-Safe), Commander Soji Ganzallo made the call during an interview with journalists at the headquarters of the Corps, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
Ganzallo said security should be seen as a collective effort that should not be left to the government, adding that it starts from the individual and the mindset should be of safety to curb acts that could negate both individual and society’s security.
According to him, “Security starts from you. You must think about security because in your home you stand as the chief security officer and this means you provide things that can make you and your family safe and avoid things that can impede your safety.”
He admonished citizens to always be vigilant and be wary of abandoned buildings, vehicles, and strange faces parading their communities, among others, which could pose a threat to the security of the environment, adding that strange movements and unwholesome activities should be reported to the necessary security personnel.
The So-Safe Commander said, “Increase in crime rate in the society is traced to negligence on the part of citizens. Most residents in rural settings are in the habit of leaving strangers occupying the villages without adequate profiling while migrating to urban centres.”
Ganzallo appreciated the State government for its unflinching support, particularly in the provision of logistics and security gadgets such as patrol vehicles, motorbikes, and many more for the agency, noting that the existing synergy between its sister agencies had helped in ensuring the security and safety of the State.
He called on stakeholders and public-spirited people to continue to support the present administration in providing all the necessary logistics for the effective discharge of the agency’s responsibilities.
