Hajiya Nafisa Nasir-Idris, wife to Kebbi Governor, has encouraged nursing mothers to embrace six months exclusive breastfeeding.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Binta Abdulhamid, the Press Secretary to the governor’s wife in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
Abdulhamid stated that the governor’s wife made the call at the launch of activities for the annual World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) for 2023 held in Jega Local Government Area.
WBW is being celebrated world-wide between Aug. 1 and 7 to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding to mothers, babies, families and societies.
She said the occasion was organised by Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency with a theme: “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making A Difference For Working Parents in Basaura.”
The governor’s wife said, “Let me call on nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for a period of six months, this will go a long way in assisting us to have healthy babies in the society.”
This, according to her, will also help in combating diseases among children.
In their separate speeches, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Kebbi State, Alhaji Shehu Nuhu-Koko and Executive Secretary, Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abubakar Kaoje, said the aim of the celebration was to enlighten mothers about the importance of breastfeeding.
They said that the programme was also meant to showcase the significance of breastfeeding to mothers, children, family and the entire society.
