Police react as gunmen attack Abia commissioner, kill two officers
The Abia State Police Command has confirmed an attack on the motorcade of the Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu.
Newsmen learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday when the commissioner embarked on a familiarization tour to markets in the Aba metropolis.
The assailants, according to the police, opened fire on the convoy which was en route to Ekeoha shopping plaza in Aba, leading to the death of two police officers.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Maureen Chioma condemned the cowardly act, stating that the command “remains steadfast in the resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
“We urge the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.
“Any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, could prove pivotal in identifying and apprehending the culprits responsible for this heinous act.
“In conclusion, we emphasize our unwavering commitment to pursuing justice and upholding the triumph of good over evil”, the statement added.
