Fire service recovers corpse of 57-year-old woman from domestic well

Kwara State firefighters had  recovered the corpse of a 57-year-old woman, identified as Mrs Jamiu Sikirat from a domestic well in Ilorin, the state capital.

The woman, of  Ile-Agunko compound Adeta Area Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, fell into a domestic well but was recovered dead at Ile-Onikoko Compound Adeta Area in  Ilorin metropolis.

According to the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the tragic incident occurred Tuesday evening at about 06:42pm.

He disclosed that the fire service was alerted through an exchange telephone call by One Mr Muhammad Jamiu living in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred.

“Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of the Nigerian Police Officers from Adewole Division Ilorin.”

A report said the deceased woman went to fetch water at the well and during the process of fetching one of her legs suddenly slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled into the well.

Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident and urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and desist from sending under age children to fetch water from domestic wells.
