Police arrest man over alleged threat to ‘kill all Igbos in Yoruba land’

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe for allegedly threatening the killing of Igbos residing in the South West (Yoruba land).

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, the suspect had, prior to his arrest, taken to his Twitter handle to call for the killing of all southeasterners living in Yoruba land.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, tweeted the statement on his official handle on Friday.

The PPRO said the tweet violated the social media policy on hate speech, hence, his arrest on Thursday.

The statement reads, “The Osun Police Command has arrested one Kehinde Adesogba Adekusibe ‘m’ 28years who violated the social media policy on hate speech.

“It could be recalled that, on 18th May, 2023, the suspect, Kehinde Adekusibe, on his Twitter handle, tweeted “Let’s kill all the Igbos. Let’s flush them out of Yoruba lands. I hate these people with a passion. They are violent people. They are worst. They hate us. Let’s hate them without holding back”.

“Immediately the police command received the report, police detectives from the cybercrime section at SCID Osogbo swung into action and through intelligence-led investigation, the suspect was arrested at Ilesa, where he hibernated.

“The suspect has confessed to the crime and he will be charged to court after the completion of investigation”.
