The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, says many financial challenges are surmountable when individuals have the right knowledge of financial management.

Mrs. Ogunleye who brought this to the fore in Abeokuta, during the 2023 Annual Financial Literacy Day, tagged; “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future,” put in place by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) was of the opinion that people, particularly learners need to cultivate an attitude of savings at early stages of their lives, as a way to achieve the desired set goals in the future.

Mrs. Ogunleye said the habit of savings promotes financial literacy, and enhances the management of finances, towards a reduction in the poverty rate.

She commended the organiser for the financial prudency campaign to secondary school learners, adding that the initiative would instill the practices of savings in them for future reference.

Speaking, the Controller, Abeokuta Zonal Office, NDIC, Mr. Adewale Shobule, said the commemoration of World Savings Day every March 23rd by the organisation, shifted to June by the Abeokuta Zone, would enlighten young ones on the significance of savings.

Mr. Shobule pointed out that savings habits would ease financial worry and reduce stress in society, lauding the present administration for prioritising the welfare and well-being of children in the State.

Earlier in his remark, the Director, Department of Education Support Services, Mr. Obadiah Akindele, appreciated NDIC for its persistent efforts towards making the programme a suspicious occasion, enjoining the learners to maximise the opportunity of the event to acquire the necessary knowledge needed for their greatness in life.
