Gunmen kill one in renew attacks in Taraba Community
Unknown gunmen have again, killed a farmer while busy on his farm in Rafin Kada community, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
This comes barely 24 hours when Jukun youth blocked the Federal Road and forcefully pulled out and killed yet to be confirmed number of persons of Tiv origin in the hub of Wukari, in repraisal to the killing of two of their youth who were suspected to be returning from a heavy attack they launched on Tse-Akinde, a village in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.
It was gathered that the victim was shot on Tuesday morning while on the farm weeding grass in his groundnut farm.
A member of the community, who identified himself as Nwunuji Bawa said the victim is one Mr. Nehemiah Mannaseh, popularly known as uncle Ade who is in his late 40s and has solely depends on his farm produce for survival.
According to him, the victim visited his farm to weed grass as the groundnut harvest season is approaching. “There were no much people in the farm where he was killed. He was caught unaware and was shot in his mouth.
“I suspect it may be Tiv millitia who were out for rampage. After killing him, they came closely to the town and were shooting in the air for minutes before they withdrew. Some community youth organize to search for him when they heard the gunshots only to find his lifeless body lying in the middle of his farm”. He narrated.
The neighboring Tiv community of Yina and Yawe leaders have disassociate themselves from the act, saying the criminals do not represent the interests of the Tiv people.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi , said he was yet to receive the report of the incident.
Recall that since 2019 till date, the Tiv people who fled the area and most parts of Wukari Local Government Area following the communal clash between the Jukun and the Tiv, have not been able to return to their ancestral homes and any attempt to return back is either resisted by the Local authorities through security Agencies.
This was orchestrated by the lack of political will of the former governor of the state, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku towards resolving the crises that had claimed thousands of lives
With the new administration in place, one can not but hope that, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, will not follow the way of Governor Ishaku, but will take proactive majors to end the crisis, resettled the displaced persons and stop the unwarranted killing of innocent persons in the axis.
