FG renames 15 airports after Buhari, Awolowo, others

The Federal Government of Nigeria has renamed 15 airports after some prominent Nigerians.

A statement from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace signed by the Head of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Odutayo Oluseyi, announced the renaming of the airports in Abuja.

According to the statement Maiduguri International Airport is renamed after Muhammadu Buhari, Ilorin after the late General Tunde Abdullahi Idiagbon, Port Harcourt International Airport renamed the late Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo, Osubi International Airport renamed Alfred Diete Spiff, and Yola International Airport now known as Lamido Aliyu Mustapha Airport.

Others are Akure International Airport named after Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu, Dutse International Airport renamed Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi, Ebonyi International Airport Okadigbo now known as Chuba Wilberforce; and Gombe International Airport renamed Brigadier Zakari Maimalari.

Also renamed is the Ibadan International Airport now Samuel Ladoke Akintola, Kaduna International Airport now Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina, Makurdi International Airport renamed after Joseph Sarwuan Tarka; Minna International Airport renamed Mall. Abubakar Imam and Nasarrawa International Airport named after Sheikh Usman Danfodio.
