Take advantage of our new skill acquisition centre – Gov Emmanuel to Ibiono youths
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has urged the youths of Ibiono Ibom local government area of the state to secure and take advantage of the Dakkada Skill Acquisition Centre (DASAC) sited in Ikot Ada Idem, Ibiono.
Gov Emmanuel who handed down the advice during the inauguration of the centre, which he said was his parting gift to the people of the area, expressed optimism that with the inauguration of the centre, Akwa Ibom is certain to produce qualitative technicians that can match contemporaries in other climes across the world.
The governor disclosed that the state has collaborated with the University of Lagos, UNILAG to manage the ultra-modern facility and expressed fulfilment that the project was a reflection of his yearning to use his tenure to create desired change rather than manage situations created by others.
He said, “with the inauguration of the centre, Akwa Ibom is certain to produce qualitative technicians that can match contemporaries in other climes across the world. I urge the youths to take advantage of the facilities and secure them.”
Speaking on why he partnered with a university within the country and not outside, the governor said it was to ensure an understanding of the state’s environment and sociocultural structure.
He commended the University of Lagos for accepting to partner with the state in the quest for vocational education and pledged the state government’s continuous support even though he will be leaving office.
In her remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos Prof Ayodele Atsenuwa thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for entrusting the responsibility to the University of Lagos assuring that they will ensure that graduates from the centre become potential employers of labour.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, an indigene of the area, Ini Ememobong applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel’s decision to convert the institution which once served as Government Technical College to a skills acquisition centre.
Ememobong who recalled that the school was abandoned by successive governments said the institution’s transformation to a world-class skills acquisition centre will bring about incremental development to the area and state at large
