Nigeria’s representatives for African Arm Wrestling tourney to emerge at Lagos meet
The Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation (NAWF) says it plans to select the country representatives for the 6th African Championship in Ghana at the 2023 Arm Wrestling Open Championship in Lagos.
NAWF President, Samuel Jackson, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.
Jackson said that the Lagos Open Championship would hold on June 11 at the Captains Bar, Ilupeju.
‘’Top winners at the Open Championship will be selected to represent the country at the African Championship in June in Ghana.
Jackson said that the African Championship in Accra, Ghana would serve as the qualifiers for the World Combat Games in Saudi Arabi in October.
“It will also serve as the qualification tournament for the arm wrestling event of the African Games in Accra, Ghana in March, 2024.
“The invitation has been sent to the Nigerian federation, and signed by the AFA Secretary General, Julien Bounmsong, the African Arm Wrestling Federation.
“Nigeria must confirm its participation for the African event by May 21, with list of names of the country’s representatives and their individual international passport numbers,’’ he said.
Jackson said that that was why all the top Nigerian arm wrestlers male and female have been invited for the June 11 Open Championship in Lagos.
In the past events to make Arm Wrestling a great sport in Africa, the first edition of the African arm wrestling championship was held in Cairo, Egypt. The second edition took place in Lagos.
The third edition was in Accra, Ghana, while the fourth edition was held in Dakar, Senegal.
The 11th edition of the African Championship took place in Lagos in 2022 in Lagos and was won by Nigeria, while the twelfth edition has been slated to hold in Accra, Ghana from June 21 to June 24.
