Rivers guber race: NRM candidate raises alarm over alleged arrest, character assassination

Barth Ndubuwah, Port Harcourt

The Governorship Candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Rivers State, Chief Sobomabo Jackrich has said that he has uncovered underground moves by his detractors and the Rivers State Government to arrest him on trumped-up charges, with a view to preventing him from taking part Saturday’s elections.

Jakrich made the allegation while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt , stressing that there are emerging facts exposing clandestine moves to feed Rivers people with unbridled falsehood in order to discredit him ahead of the forthcoming Saturday’s gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections .

He further alleged that the State government and their cohort have contracted some persons to frame him with spurious allegations in order to indict him of such malicious allegation so as to have something to persecute him and have their way in the forthcoming elections, knowing fully well his chances of winning the governorship election.

According to him, he is very optimistic that the alleged plot was as a result of his recent stand and strong condemnation of the subversion of the will of Rivers people in the just concluded February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections, where he alleged that the Rivers State government in conjunction with some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State  connived and stole the mandate of the people, freely given to  the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, thereby converting  it to Ahmed Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

He reiterated that the hollow and baseless allegation of rape, child molestation were targeted at discrediting his reputation and also to prevent him from contesting the election .

“They want me to look as a criminal in the eyes of Rivers people so as to abort my chances of winning the governorship election, otherwise why is such allegation and charges coming up now? I have been in the race all this while. Is it because I raised my voice against the manner with which they stole the people’s mandate given to Peter Obi?”Jakrich queried.

He expressed worry and disappointment over such alleged trumped-up charges and called on all relevant security agencies to properly investigate such allegation whenever it comes up in order to avert the evil plans of the State government and their cohort against him .

The NRM Governorship hopeful threatened to take legal action against anyone who will come up with such evil plans against him in order to smear his reputation which he has built over the years.

He assured his party faithful and the electorates that come May 29,2023 he would be sworn in as Governor of Rivers State.
