Unemployed man docked for alledgely snatching phone, cash

A 25-year-old unemployed man, Hassan Isiyaku, was on Monday docked in a Kado Grade I Area Court in Abuja for alledgely snatching a cell phone and N10,000 at a bus-stop.

The Prosecution Counsel, Charity Samuel told the court that the matter was reported at Utako Police Station by the complainant, Adamu Abdullahi of Bakin Saleh, Minna, Niger, on Dec.31,2022.

Samuel further alleged that the defendant and his accomplices at large,asurrounded the  complainant at a bus-stop in Utako, Abuja.

The prosecutor added that they formed criminal intention and snatched his mobile phone and N10,000 and took to their heels.

She added that while the defendant was caught trying to escape from the scene and the phone recovered from him, his two accomplices escaped with the cash.

According to her, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Muhammed Wakili granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 and a surety in like sum.

He directed that the surety must provide a passport photograph, any valid means of identification and a BVN printout from his bank.

Wakili also adjourned the matter until March 23, for hearing
