Benue IDPs will vote during Saturday’s elections – SEMA

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said eligible voters at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state would vote in  Saturday’s general elections.

Dr Emmanuel Shior, Executive Secretary, SEMA, stated this on Thursday, in Makurdi, at the agency’s monthly distribution of relief materials to more than 2 million IDPs in the state.

Shior said that majority of the eligible IDPs were registered but unfortunately many of them were unable to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).

He said the agency would ensure that those with their PVCs who were willing to vote were not disenfranchised.

He said the agency distributed  6,0000 bags of rice, 10,000 crates of eggs, more than 20,000 tubers of yams,  cartons of indomine, beds, blankets and many none food items to the IDPs.

Shior said 18 out of the 23 Local Government Areas in the state were affected by the herders attacks.

” As we speak some communities in Logo and Guma were in the early hours of today attacked by the herders,”he said.

The executive secretary said that security had been strengthened at all the camps for the safety of the IDPs.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure the safety of all Nigerians by providing adequate security of lives and property across the country.

He commended the media for their balanced reportage on the herders’ attacks in the state and urged them to continue doing their good work
