Rivers State College of Health Science & Management Technology matriculates 878 students
..Says it has zero tolerance for vices

No fewer than 878 students last Friday matriculated into the various schools of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology (RSCHSMT), Oro-Owo, Rumueme in Obio/Akpor Local Governnment Area of Rivers State.
Addressing the matriculants during the matriculation ceremony, the Provost of the College, Prof. Franklin Nlerum congratulated the students for getting admission into the College and urged them to be committed to their studies.
He assured them that the College has the qualified manpower to enable them acquire their training and graduate at record time.
The Provost equally informed the audience that the College has been granted accreditation in all its programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), hence they can now proceed on mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme like every other tertiary institution.
Prof Nlerum informed the matriculants that the College under his leadership has equipped its laboratories and procured 150KVA of sound proof generator to enhance power supply.
He, therefore, urged them to redeem their own part of the deal by paying their school fees promptly, attend lectures and do their assignments dutifully.
He reassured them that the management owe it as a duty to inculcate into them good moral values in addition to their academic excellence.
He, however, warned them them that the College has zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism, exam malpractice and other social vices, hence the need for them to be committed to their academic pursuits.
The Provost thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for his financial support to the College, which he said facilitated the accreditation of their programmes.
He also thanked the parents for encouraging their children and wards to gain admission into the College, assuring them of the best of education for their wards.
Prof Nlerum equally commended the host community for providing a peaceful atmosphere for teaching and learning, urging them to sustain the tempo.
In an interview with journalists shortly after the event, the Provost admitted that despite their achievements, the College still has challenges ranging from more classrooms, hostels to additional manpower.
“You cannot have all the infrastructure, yes we have infrastructure, but that is not to say that we don’t need more. As number of students are growing, so the need for more infrastructure. Even commensurate manpower is required as the student population increases,” Prof Nlerum said.
