Kidnapped naval officer rescued in Anambra

A naval officer kidnaped over the weekend in Onitsha, Anambra State, has been rescued.

A source from the State Naval Outpost, who pleaded for anonymity, said the officer, simply identified as Ozuowa, was rescued by the military without any ransom paid.

The victim, currently serving at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Ologbo, was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday at Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, about around 6:30pm, with some other persons.

“Ozuowa was on transit from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after he was released last Friday to attend his long course programme when the incident happened. He was ambushed with others regrettably at the Upper Iweka area in Onitsha. Quick Response Force (QRF) was deployed immediately,” the source said.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have been deployed at entry and exit points in the state, particularly in and around Onitsha, on stop and search following the development.
