Disabled persons in Kebbi APC, demand employment
Persons living with disabilities in Kebbi State APC have alleged poor representation in the state’s civil service, demanding more employment opportunities.
Agitating under the aegis of the APC Awareness organization, the group explained that its members remain unemployed even after graduating from Tertiary Institutions, appealing to the State government to address the issues.
The group led by its state coordinator, Anas Malami Gwandu also demanded that the government patronize their handicrafts and other commercial ventures to improve their socio-economic status.
Gwandu who has a BSc in Computer science from the Federal University, Bimini Kebbi said his members were studying in various Tertiary Institutions across the country through scholarships provided by the state government.
He explained that the visit was to thank the governor and the State government for their kind gesture to people with disability in the state
“These have enabled some of us finish our degrees, HNDs, ONDs and other professional certificates majoring in various professions”
Gwandu acclaimed that the Governor has backed his actions up by always visiting some institutions to keep abreast of the situation on ground.
The group also acknowledged the provision of tricycles, kneepads, eye visual aids, walking sticks, and rehabilitation of dormitories, classrooms, health facilities and other learning materials by the state government.
Responding, the State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Kebbi State Government House, Aliyu Mustapha Gwandu reassured the group of the State government’s commitment towards the socio-economic improvement of the persons with disabilities.
The Governor said his administration will not stop at assisting persons with disabilities but also those with special needs to pursue their academic endeavours.
This was contained in a press statement signed and issued to newsmen by the chief press secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari and made available to newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.
Governor Bagudu advised them to enrol their children in schools while at the same time to sustain their academic pursuits, soliciting support for APC,s triumph in the 2023 general elections.
