Ife Day: Let’s work for growth, development of our source – Ooni
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has charged the indigenes of the ancient city of Ile-Ife, at home and diaspora, to come home and work for the growth and development of the town.
Ooni gave the charge during the grand-finale of of Ife Day 2022, whose colourful with cultural heritage was showcased at Afenworo Square, Enuwa, on Saturday, in Ile-Ife.
He commended the Committee on Ife Day 2022, led by Dr Yomi Layinka, sons and daughters at home and diaspora for their efforts to make the day come to realities.
Ooni acknowledged the sponsors of the programme for their support so far to see that the cradle of Yorubas is not far fetch from progress.
Oba Ogunwusi called on the indigenes, whom God has helped to rise up, to assist the less privileged by uplifting them to live a meaningful life.
He called for the cooperation of the descendants to jointly work for the progress of the ancient city, saying that a tree cannot make a forest.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Ife Day 2022, Dr Yomi Layinka, appreciated God for granting them the grace to witnessed the occasion.
Layinka said that they’ve deliberated on the vision for 2025 – 2030 on how they want Ife to look like, saying that Ife be should be modernised and commercialised.
He adding that the plan of the Committee is to ensure that they optimised Ife to be the tourist centre that would engage human capacity.
According to him, Ile-Ife would be a modern Mecca of the Source that all will be proud of.
The Chairman called on all stakeholders, philanthorpists, group and individuals to come together to build the town for the vision to be greatly achieved.
“You can only achieve great goals when you have great plan to implement effectively, so we’ve opened up a vision for Ife 2030.
“Only traditionalists celebrate Olojo festival, but Ife Day should be celebrated by both Christians, Muslims and Traditionalists for a tree cannot make a forest.” Layinka pleaded.
In the same vein, the APC Candidates for the House of Representatives in Ife Federal Constituency, Hon Benjamin Adereti, said that the celebration marked the significance day in the life of all sons and daughters of Ife.
Adereti added that the event marked the rebirth of the new Ife, which Ooni has been championing, and the people have been clamouring for.
He called all indigenes of Ife in Diaspora to come back home to build the source of human race, saying that there’s no place like home.
