Kokopelli Africa hosts Brymo, Faith Moyosore, others for a night of enchanting storytelling

Kokopelli, a prominent arts organisation encompassing an art gallery, literary and storytelling hub, and cultural events company, recently hosted another enthralling edition of its revered Tales and Cocktails Night of Storytelling concert. The event unfolded on December 3, 2022, at the Lagos City Mall Theatre Hall, continuing a tradition that has showcased luminaries like award-winning poet Poetolu (Tolu Akinyemi), best-selling author Damilare Kuku and award-winning writer, Toni Kan in previous editions.

This edition of Tales and Cocktails featured renowned music artist and storyteller, Brymo. His live recitations of stories and folktales held the audience spellbound. The evening was further enriched by the presence of celebrated performance poet and cultural producer, Faith Moyosore Agboola, whose emotionally charged poems elicited strong reactions from the audience. Multifaceted artist, Eva Johnson, skillfully blended music and poetry to captivate the audience, while the event also witnessed gripping narratives by Salem King.

The event was hosted by Ella Fortte, a poet herself who is known for her compering skills. Reflecting on the experience, Faith Moyosore Agboola remarked, “Performing poetry on stages is one of my favourite things. Especially in a room full of literary talent and lovers of stories and literature. There is a deep appreciation for the art and you can feel it in the air. It’s my favourite type of audience.” Ella Fortte, the event’s compere, shared her thoughts, saying, “I’ve had the privilege of hosting this event on multiple occasions, and without fail, our poets, spoken word artists and perfomers bring a new layer of creativity that resonates with the audience, making each edition truly special.”

Tales and Cocktails drew an impressive crowd, with the theatre hall full to the brim with willing participants who purchased tickets at N10,000 each. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed complimentary cocktails that complemented the enriching performances. The event spanned a three-hour duration, leaving the audience moved and inspired.

Kokopelli Africa continues to fulfil its mission of celebrating the arts and nurturing a deep appreciation for storytelling and cultural expression.
